Spillway
Turn email into organized work
Spillway is a local-first email and work organizer for macOS. It helps people understand what their messages mean, sort them into useful categories, identify requests and commitments, and keep important work from overflowing.
Spillway is currently available only as pre-alpha software for invited testers.
What Spillway does
- Connects to Gmail with the user's permission.
- Organizes messages into user-controlled categories and work views.
- Identifies possible requests, commitments, dates, and opportunities for the user to review.
- Supports local AI through Ollama.
- Optionally supports cloud AI providers chosen and configured by the user.
- Keeps App-created data primarily on the user's device.
- Lets the user control supported Gmail actions such as labels, read state, archive, Trash, drafts, and sending.
Privacy approach
Spillway is designed to work locally whenever practical. The developer does not operate an App server that receives or stores users' Gmail content.
When local Ollama is selected at a local address, email content is processed through the user's own configured Ollama service. If a user explicitly enables OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or another nonlocal endpoint, selected email content is sent directly to that provider under the provider's terms and privacy policy.
OAuth tokens and API keys are stored using Apple Keychain where supported. Spillway does not sell Gmail data, use it for advertising, or train a general-purpose AI model with it.

Testing status
Spillway is experimental pre-alpha software. Features may be incomplete, change, or fail. Testers should keep access to Gmail or another established email client and should not use Spillway as the only copy of important information.
